The One Where We Threw an Epic Surprise Party

A couple of weekends ago we threw my sister, Mari, a surprise birthday party.

As we were in the beginning stages of planning, my brother-in-law (my sister’s hubby) suggested we do a “Friends” theme.  My sister is addicted to the show, so it was a perfect idea!

Unfortunately, I forgot to grab my camera as she was walking in, so I didn’t catch her surprised face, but she definitely seemed taken-off-guard when all of her friends jumped out from the hallway.

She loved the theme and decor of course! I think she was most surprised by all of that [read: she's much better at themed parties than I am].  Hopefully, she had a great time and it made this birthday a little memorable!

I had to include this picture because the facial expressions are priceless

Happy birthday, Mari! Hope 26 is an awesome year for you!

DIY Frames

I’m back!  Sorry about the lack of posts last week.  I have been swamped planning a surprise birthday party for my lovely sister (which I will be sharing more about soon)!  But that also brings me to today’s post: DIY frames.

We were doing a “Friends” theme for her party, and so we were trying to recreate the iconic frame on Monica’s door, but did not want to spend a lot of money.  So my friend and I went to Michael’s, bought these frames that were around $2 each and the can of spray paint which was about $3-$4.

I set up shop in my mom’s garage, spray painted one side, let them dry for about an hour, then flipped them over and did the other side.

The end result!

As someone who does not have a crafty bone in my body, I loved how simple and easy it was!  I might have caught the craftiness bug…

DIY Bulletin Board

I am not sure if it’s the “teacher” in me or what, but I HATE boring bulletin boards.

***I have an Elementary Ed degree, though I do not teach anymore.  More on that later…

Anyway, they can be utilized to really add some color and decor to your office/work space without spending much money. All you need is some fabric, ribbon, scissors/box cutter, stapler, and decorative push pins (I got all the materials for less than $10— just pay attention to what fabric is on sale).

Not that you need instructions, but here is a step-by-step breakdown of how I did my board:

1. Here is my boring board…2013-06-06 10.14.19

2. To hang the fabric, I used a stapler to make sure it was secure.2013-06-06 10.19.00

3.  A razor or box cutter like this makes it easy to trim up the edges.2013-06-06 10.24.13

4.  With the fabric stapled on:2013-06-06 10.29.52

4.  Adding the ribbon.  This where I utilize the decorative push pins.  I kind of eyed the spacing between each, but you could use a measuring tape if you want to make sure they are spaced out perfectly.2013-06-06 10.32.04

What do you decorate your office/work space with to make it feel a little more cozy?

Nautical or Nice?

I am not sure about you, but I am in love with all things nautical lately.  I picked up these two items at one of my favorite local jewelry stores, Polka-Dotted Flamingo.  They have such cute stuff and for cheap! I got both for under $24.

I love that the bracelet is dressy and casual, so it can be worn with many different outfits.  The ring is exactly what I had been searching for.  I wanted something that was small and could be worn daily if I wanted (I tend to gravitate towards large statement rings that can only be worn on special occasions).  The background of the anchor is navy, which is a trend I am really into lately, and it’s the perfect size that I can wear it with just about anything!  Oh, I am also obsessed with gold.  I never thought I would like gold jewelry— I always thought gold seemed “old” but I have really grown to love it over the last year (maybe I’m just getting old?!).

What are some of your favorite trends in jewelry right now?
