birthday

Twenty-Nine

What better time to try and make a comeback from such a long hiatus than on my birthday?! I know I have been negligent with blogging the last few months. There has just been so much going on and it’s been a whirlwind of a year, with so many changes and emotions that I can’t even begin to describe in one post. But I will share one of the exciting and scary things that is happening as I enter my 30th year of life: I am going back to school!I

My first degree was in Elementary Education, which I used for all of 9 months. That was 7 years ago, and after many jobs, life events, and just stroke of luck, I’ve found myself in a job that is sort of IT related, and I am really enjoying it. However, if I want to continue in this field, and especially open future doors, I feel I need a degree to back up my experience, so I’ve decided to get a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology.

The nice thing is that even though it’s going to be another bachelor’s degree, I’m going to the same university I went to the first time (The University of North Carolina Wilmington) and a lot of my credit hours from my first degree count towards this one. I am a little terrified because I was never the best at school – I tried hard but I’m just not academically minded – and I have to take not one, but TWO, calculus classes for this degree. Math is not my strong suit at all, but thankfully Jeff loves math so I have a good tutor that’s also free!

Another reason I figured I should go back to school is that my current employer has an Educational Assistance program where they will reimburse me for 2 classes per semester as long as I pass. Plus, I work on the UNCW campus, so getting to the classes will be easy. I also have a truly amazing boss who is very flexible with me about my hours and schedule, so I can work around my class times. I just kept asking myself, “If not now, when?”

Until classes start in January, though, I’m taking full advantage of my free time, which is one of the reasons why I haven’t been blogging as much. I do hope to get back to posting more often, but I doubt I will be posting more than once per week.

I truly appreciate those of you that have stuck around during this break. I’m truly thankful for each and every one of you that read this little blog of mine. Now I’m off to enjoy my birthday!

Today is the day.

The day I turn another year older.

28 years old to be exact.

I thought I would be more upset about the fact that 30 seems to be approaching so quickly. Yes, if you are 30 or older, I know you want to reach through the screen right now and slap me.

I will admit, I haven’t been super excited about this birthday because I really hoped I would be pregnant by now. I’ve been off the pill for 14 months. BUT I also knew it was pretty unlikely with the Hashimoto’s and PCOS stuff that it would happen quickly (though, it still doesn’t make it any easier to see yet another negative pregnancy test month after month).

HOWEVER, I truly believe that EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON, and that this past year there was just a reason that it wasn’t the right time for me to get pregnant.

There have been so many POSITIVE changes in my life that I think needed to happen first:

  • Going gluten-free which has made me healthier
  • Losing 20 lbs (also made me a lot healthier!)
  • Becoming more happy and confident in who I am as a person
  • Pursuing my dreams by focusing more on this blog and making a job change even when friends and family didn’t understand or support
  • Going through some rocky times in my marriage which in the end has strengthened it even more
  • Growing closer to my sister and my brother than ever before

These are just to name a few!

All-in-all, if 28 is anything like 27 was, it’s going to be a GREAT year!

So here’s to another year of growing older (and hopefully, wiser)! I cannot wait to see what the next 12 months will hold!

And because my birthday is obviously in December, I have to share these hilarious ecards:

Five on Friday

Happy Friday the 13th!  If you are superstitious… well… don’t be!

And Happy 28th Birthday to the Olsen twins!

Don’t judge me for knowing this! It’s easy for me to remember because they are exactly 6 months older than I am [my birthday is Dec. 13].  Oh geez, this means there is only 6 months until I turn 28… not cool…

Anywho, it’s been a fun week, so let’s recap!

<< ONE >> I saw this on Instagram this week and of course had to re-post! It describes me perfectly! If only I could get paid to shop..

photo1 << TWO >> My friend, Hayley, is getting married next month.  My sister and I went to a bridal shower in her honor.  The guy she is marrying was like a little brother to us growing up [he and my actual brother seemed inseparable for a while].  It doesn’t seem possible that they are old enough to get married, but I am so excited for them!  Oh, and I totally took the pictures for this post then went to her shower in the same outfit… ain’t nobody got time to change!

photo2 << THREE >> I have a couple of new favorite products which I will be sharing about next week!  A sample of the They’re Real! Push-up Liner came in the mail and I cannot wait to get my hands on a full-size tube! This stuff is a game changer for me!

photo3 << FOUR >> I spent some time working at my mother-in-law’s florist taking some pictures of bouquets and other products, as well as helping her with some social media-related things.  This was really fun and I hoping I can possibly work with some other local businesses in the future.

photo4 << FIVE >> My phone was hacked… by three crazy boys {the one on the right is my hubby}…

photo5  What have you been up to this week? Do you have any fun plans for Father’s Day this weekend?

P.S.  I’m kind of obsessed with Instagram, so you should totally follow me! And if you do, leave me a comment with your username and I will follow you back!
